Today was a special day – a very special day. I performed my first and only wedding ceremony – Ken and Jeanie’s. They came down at noon and we went through the marriage ceremony. Ken looked so grubby, I thought, “Oh Ken!” They got some snowballs and roses. At 4:20 I went up to Blakley’s to get the license filled out and to get oriented. They had the outside decorated so nice and when Ken came out of the house he looked so nice. He’d gotten his hair cut and he had on a neat pair of black slacks and shoes and a yellow shirt. The ceremony wet very well, but just as they said “I do” Devon Mecham came roaring up the lane with his tractor. It was really a disruption, but it was humorous. Steve, Jackie and the girls were there and then Lynn and Deloy came also. There was a large crowd of Jeanie’s folks and they seemed nice. After the ceremony they had a lovely lunch fixed. Taking everything into consideration, I think it was pretty nice. On Sunday we went to church. I helped give the Relief Society lesson and Joan Conrad was the teacher. Ken Nelson and his family gave the program for sacrament meeting and it was well done. Ken is a very devoted father and husband. Instead of the Sunday School lesson, they had the Junior Sunday School for Father’s Day. So sweet. Monday and Tuesday I spent getting ready to go to Utah County Convention up at Park City. We left Wednesday morning at 8:00 a.m. Betty Mecham went with me and I was delighted to have her. We got there, got our hotel reservations and out registration and went to the general session. After lunch, Betty went sight seeing with Wally Green and Vaughn Larson while the rest of us went to our departmental sessions. They had the banquet in the evening, which was very delicious, and we were entertained b y the Beehive State Chorus (men). That was really an outstanding singing group. They steak was rare, without being bloody – probably marinated. Best I have eat! Thursday, departmental sessions then the ladies luncheon. Another success in food. Thursday afternoon we went up on the ski lift and came down the Alpine Slide, which is like a cement irrigation ditch and we used little toboggan-like sleds that we could control by braking. Fun! The luau was fantastic. The only Hawaiian dish we didn’t have was poi. Roast pork, and marinated chicken and all the exotic fruits of the islands. It really reminded me of our trip to Hawaii several years ago. We came home on Friday. ON Saturday I was bringing my lawn up on the porch (does she mean lawnmower?) after I got through mowing the lawn and I slipped and fell through the glass storm door. I cut my back and my left arm pretty badly but nothing really serious. I mean no stitches. Sunday Marlene gave the Cultural Refinement lesson in Relief Society. It was on Medieval Europe. I really enjoyed the art, literature and the music. I’ve always loved to read historical novels of that period. The music is really fascinating. Lurinda Peterson has really taught me how to appreciate and enjoy music, which I used to dislike intensely.
